For Choctaw County athletics, it's not this week and not next week. After that, who knows?
The Mississippi High School Activities Association has suspended all athletics and activities for two weeks due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has hit the state. If there will be a resumption when the two weeks end is unresolved.
The baseball team did play two games during Spring Break, a victory over Morton and a loss to Kosciusko. There were four games scheduled this week and next -- Region 4-3A contests with Aberdeen and Noxubee County and non-region games with Neshoba Central and Philadelphia.
Coach Andy Young hopes to reschedule the region games, but the non-region games might not be played. The next scheduled game is April 2 at New Hope.
“I feel for all the senior baseball players and softball players,” Young said. He was also sorry to hear that Mississippi junior colleges have canceled all spring sports because that will impact some of his former players
“That broke my heart for those kids.”
The softball team had six games scheduled for these two weeks, two each with Noxapater and Noxubee County and one each with Hatley and Houston. Noxubee, Hatley and Houston are Region 4-3A games. The next scheduled game is March 31 at home against Aberdeen, a region opponent.
The boys and girls track teams were scheduled to run at Pontotoc March 28. The next scheduled meet is also at Pontotoc April 3.
“We will see if that one materializes,” said girls coach Jeff Roberts.

Grace Christian School classes have been canceled his week due to the Coronavirus pandemic, wiping out three baseball games. The Eagles were scheduled to play Kemper Academy, New Summit and Victory Christian.
Coach Charlie Agnew is hopeful that the games can be made up, possibility as doubleheaders when Grace Christian is scheduled to play each of those teams again – March 26 at home with New Summit, March 31 at Victory Christian and April 9 at home with Kemper Academy.
“Things are kind of in limbo,” Agnew said. “If things get back to some degree of normalcy, then I would say that there is a high priority that we will try to make them up. But I don’t know what the probability is of things getting back to normalcy in the next week or so.”
The next scheduled games are March 23 with Starkville Christian and March 24 with Meridian Home School, both at home. This is all dependent upon what happens next with a very volatile situation, and that’s a big if, according to Agnew.
“I’m usually an optimist, but right now I’m sort of a pessimist,”
