Chargers compete in practice track meet
The Choctaw County boys and girls track teams faced their first competition in a practice dual meet with Winona. Team scores were not kept.
“We haven't had much time to practice because of the amount of rain,” said girls coach Jeff Roberts. “We know a lot of kids are gong to get better.”
Two girls who ran well for Choctaw County were Fannie Miller, an eighth grader, in the 100 and 200 meter runs and 400 relay, and N'Kia Belk, a junior in the hurdles. On the boys side, the1600 and 3200 relay teams ran well.
Israel Whitmore, the 2018 boys 3A state champion in the shot put, did not compete due to injuries suffered during basketball season. “We're slowly working him back in, trying to let him get better. He should be good by the time the district meet gets here.” Roberts said.
In addition to the shot put, Whitmore competes in the long jump and high jump.
The first regular meet will be March 27 at Pontotoc.
