The Region 6-1A coaches recently released their all-region team for the 2023 season.
Region champions Velma Jackson dominated the list as Gavin Griffin was named the 6-1A Offensive MVP while Tyshun Willis was named the Defensive MVP.
French Camp placed three players on the first team. Seniors Avery Summers and Silas Hodge made the first-team while junior quarterback Logan Wright was a first-team selection.
Hodge finished the season with 1,443 yards and 15 TDs on 165 carries while Wright rushed for 636 yards on 130 carries and also passed for 950 yards on 62-of-117 passing. Summers led the Panthers in receiving with 30 catches for 417 yards.
Making the second team for French camp was junior defensive end Rylan Moore and junior defensive tackle J.D. Leach.
Ethel, who finished second in the region with a 7-3 record, placed seven players on the first team and three players on the honorable mention.
Senior Bobo Hubbert finished with 1,133 yards and 16 TDs o 162 carries while Marcus Jones had 740 yards yards on 103 carries with 11 TDs along with 668 yards passing. Also making the first team was senior wide receivers Jaylen Estes, Bobby Milstead and Matthew Arnold. Sophomore Kameron Fortenberry and junior center Wyatt May also made the first team. On the honorable mention team was senior defensive end Jonas King, freshman defense end Zantavious Clark and junior linebacker Brayden Hodges.
McAdams placed three players on the first team in senior defensive back Ja’Myran Cross, senior wide receiver Chris Harmon and junior wide receiver Gavin Brown. Making the honorable mention from McAdams were Zion Christian, Jamar Teague, Dendarian Lusk, Jatarrious Roundtree, DeMarques Triplett, Jayden Harmon, Edward Stewart, D.K. Williams and Willie Nash. The Lady Chargers and Chargers are taking Thanksgiving Break to recoup until Saturday when the girls are in a tournament at West Lowndes.
The Lady Chargers dropped losses to Eupora and Houston, while the guys pulled away with the wins.
Lady Chargers
In the first Highway IX match up, the Lady Eagles took the win at home against the Lady Chargers 53 to 36. Although the Lady Chargers put up a fight all night against the Lady Eagles, it would be the Lady Eagles who would pull away with the win.
The Lady Chargers were back at home against the Houston Hilltoppers. Again, in another battle where the Lady Chargers worked to fight back and make it a game, the Lady Hilltoppers put distance between the two and left the Cobb with the win.

On the boys side, it’s the opposite as the County Boys took the lead in the matchup against the Eagles and the Hilltoppers and never looked back. Against the Eagles, the County Boys walked away with a 62-43 win.
Thursday, the County Boys were back at the Cobb against the Houston Hilltoppers. The Hilltoppers tried to make it a game, but the County Boys took a huge lead and they never looked back. The County Boys walked away with a 72-45 against the Hilltoppers.
