The Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors continued their strong play on the basketball courts and junior guard Nyshea Hoskin continues to dominate opponents.
Hoskins scored 41 points in a 57-44 win over McAdams and 40 points in a 64-32 win over Velma Jackson as the Lady Warriors opened division play with a pair of wins.
The Warriors weren’t as fortunate as they dropped both games last week, falling 72-35 to 1A contender McAdams and 59-57 to Velma Jackson in overtime.
Nanih Waiya will play at French Camp on Tuesday and at Ethel on Thursday to finish out the week. The following week, Nanih Waiya will play at rival Noxapater on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and then at McAdams on Friday, Jan. 19.
Nanih Waiya girls 57, McAdams 44
The Lady Warriors overcame a slow start and outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the last three periods to take a 14-point win last week.
McAdams took an early 11-7 lead in the first period before Nanih Waiya outscored the Lady Bulldogs 20-10 in the second period to lead 27-21 at the half. Nanih Waiya then outscored McAdams 17-12 in the third and 13-11 in the fourth to take the win.
Nyshea Hoskin had a monster game for Nanih Waiya with 41 points while Alexandria Eiland had nine points. Hunter Phillips also chipped in six points.
McAdams boys 72, Nanih Waiya 35
The Bulldogs outscored the Warriors in every period and took a 37-point win over the Warriors.
McAdams led 15-10 after the first period and then outscored Nanih Waiya 22-11 in the second to lead 37-21 at the half. McAdams then extended the lead in the second half and outscored Nanih Waiya 16-8 in the third and 19-6 in the fourth for the final margin.
Jake Vick led Nanih Waiya with 11 points while Bryce Boler had 10 points. Conner Hickman also chipped in six points.
Nanih Waiya girls 64, Velma Jackson 32
The Lady Warriors got another big game from Hoskins and outscored the Lady Falcons in every period to take a 32-point win.
Nanih Waiya led 9-2 at the end of the first and 24-16 at the half. But the Lady Warriors then outscored the Lady Falcons 24-11 in the third and 16-5 in the fourth to take the win.
Nyshea Hoskin led Nanih Waiya with 40 points while Alexandria Eiland had 14 points and Kylianna Spivey added six points.
Velma Jackson boys 59, Nanih Waiya 57
The Warriors fell in overtime as the homestanding Falcons took a two-point win in division play.
Velma held a slim 13-11 lead at the end of the first period and then outscored NanihWaiya 14-10 in the second period to lead 27-21 at the half. The Warriors then outscored the Falcons 21-18 in the third and 11-9 in the fourth to send the game into overtime. The Falcons then outscored the Warriors 6-4 in the extra period to take the win.
Jaqurious Hughes led Nanih Waiya with 18 points while Jake Vick had 11 points. Sameer Hughes had nine points while Preston Prewitt had eight points. Conner Hickman also had seven points for the Warriors.
