The Lady Chargers had a bit of a rollercoaster week. They had a dismal showing against Kosciusko, but came back swinging on all cylinders against Starkville before falling against Eupora.
But, there were some bright spots against Kosciusko.
They faced the Lady Whippets Tuesday and Thursday and neither day worked out well for the Lady Chargers.
Lady Chargers, 0, Kosciusko 8
Tuesday in Kosciusko, the Lady Chargers were shut out with Kosciusko collecting eight runs against them.
Lexi Patterson going two-for-three, Maddie Sanders and Abby Newlin each going one-for-three, they were able to create movement for the Lady Chargers, but with runners being left on the bag there weren’t able to capitalize, and Kosciusko made little errors for them to move on. And Kosciusko’s pitcher was on the money, striking out 15.
However, the Lady Chargers didn’t exactly make it easy for the Lady Whippets as for three innings its was 1 up. Kosciusko saw light in the fourth and fifth innings and the sixth and the seventh were shut out innings.
Mary Claire Salley pitched five innings, struck out three, had nine hitters and Kosciusko had eight runs. Kinsley Tuck also pitched an inning and only had one hitter in that inning.
Lady Chargers,0, Kosciusko, 3
At the Glass, it was the battle of the pitchers as again Kosciusko’s pitcher let nothing get by her, striking out 17. She shut down all movement alone, with one walking Patterson.
This time on the mound for the Lady Chargers was Presley Scarbrough. Scarbrough struck out five, had six hitters and only allowed three runs.
Kosciusko saw light in the first and second innings and it was 2 up until the seventh inning when they were able to get their last run in.
Lady Chargers, 10, Starkville, 0
Looking for redemption against Kosciusko, the Lady Chargers were back at the Glass against Starkville. Lexi Patterson and Maddie Sanders came up big at the bat for the Lady Chargers as each homered one in.
It was Patterson’s homer that began a Lady Charger rally and it was all she wrote after that. Before her homer, the first and second innings saw movement but no capitalization upon it. But, at the bottom of the third – well Patterson knocked the bottom out of the ball – bringing in herself and Maddie Sanders.
In the bottom of the fourth, it was Sanders that knocked an in-field homer that brought in herself and Atleigh Hollingsworth.
Britlee Telano, Jalia James, Olivia Alashti, Hollingsworth, Ava Talley each had an RBI during the game and Sanders and Patterson each added one more RBI.
Starkville attempted to fight back but couldn’t. On the mound, it was Salley as she struck out nine with a no hitter.
Eupora 9, Lady Chargers 4
Coming off the high of Starkville, the Lady Chargers couldn’t get things going against the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles came out swinging, getting on the board and every inning after brough in a run. At the top of the fifth they brought in four runs and at the top of the sixth, they brought in two. The Lady Chargers attempted to rally back but couldn’t overcome the deficit.
In this game, it was Sanders who came up big at bat with two RBIs. Simmons Brooks and Telano each added an RBI.
The Lady Chargers had movement, but ended innings leaving runners on base.
On the mound was a combination of Salley and Scarbrough. Salley pitched three innings, Scarbrough pitched four. Each struck out five, Salley had five hitters and four runs in. Scarbrough had seven hitters and five runs in.
