In their meeting, on Monday, May 18, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors discussed the possibility of building a new firehouse in the Chester community, which act as an ambulance station. Currently, one of the Pafford EMS crews is stationed at Choctaw Regional Medical Center, and the new firehouse would make for better accommodations. Representatives of TVA and Southern Company were present, and were agreeable to helping with the construction. The Board also discussed placing all county paper records into a digital format. The County has records that go back to the 1890s. The supervisors agreed to look into different companies to determine what the cost of the project would be. The Board also heard a request from the Choctaw County School District concerning work that needs to be done at French Camp Elementary, Ackerman Elementary and Weir Elementary schools. In other action, the Board: • Voted 5-0 to advertise for bids on repair to the Choctaw Regional Medical Center driveway, and for soil cement and reseal projects on different county roads. Bids are to be opened on July 6. • Authorized Chancery Clerk Steve Montgomery to look into reverse auctioning two trucks for Solid Waste, as there is nothing available on state contract. • Voted 5-0 to accept homestead rejects. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors is Monday, June 8, at 9 a.m. However, due to the pandemic attendance is being limited.
