C. RR, and thence west parallel with railroad 250 feet, then north with Chester Street to the ally running east/west and passing through the center of said Block No. 3, thence east on the south side of said ally to Commerce St. thence south to the beginning point. JULY 14, 1900 FROM THE ACKERMAN RECORD, VOL. 2, NUMBER 17 IN MEMORIAM: A. J. Prewitt, Sr. was born August 5th, 1839 in Choctaw county, Mississippi, and died April 25th 1900, being at the time of his death sixty years, eight months, and 20 days old. He enlisted in the army in April 1861 in Company “I” known as Choctaw Guards, and belonged to the 15th Mississippi Regiment. He was elected Orderly Sargent and afterwards promoted to Second Lieutenant. He served in the Infantry three years and on account of rheumatism, raised a company of cavalry in 1864 and served His company as Captain until the close of the war. Mr. Prewitt was married to Miss S. A. Coleman, daughter of I. D. Coleman Sept. the 23rd, 1863, and unto them were born eleven children, six boys and five girls, all of who are now living except the oldest son, and all married except the youngest boy. Mr. Prewitt served one term as Tax Assessor and was re-elected to a second term. On July the 20th, 1870, Mr. Prewitt united with the Baptist church, at Mt. Moriah, and to the day of his death lived a consistent Christian life. Mr. Prewitt was a man of the noblest impulses, genial of manner, and generous of soul. He was esteemed and beloved by all. In every relation of life he was true and upright. He was a devoted husband, a kind father, a loyal citizen, a Christian man. LOCALS AND PERSONALS: Born, to H. A. Hearon, Jr. and wife July 7th, a boy. - Attorneys J. A. Davis and S. L. Dodd of Kosciusko spent Monday night in town. - Miss Bessie Paslay of Como, sister to our popular druggist B. B. Paslay, is visiting the latter’s home now. - A sophisticated and beautiful young lady, Miss Bessie Vaughn of Columbus, is visiting Mrs. R. E. Quinn. The children’s day exercises at the M. E. church last Sunday in the main were interesting to all. - Messers C. A. Hemphill and J. J. Carter of French Camp were with us last Friday. - We acknowledge the pleasure of a call on Tuesday from Miss Lillie Mabry of Weir. Among the appreciated callers during the week were H. R. Johnson and his son J. H., who did us the honor of a visit Tuesday. - MARRIED – At the residence of J. W. Catledge Sunday July the 8th, 1900, Rev. J. P. Sargent officiating, Mr. J. S. Rhodes to Miss Evie Catledge. - Those two prosperous farmers, C. B. Mosley of Ruff and C. C. McCafferty of Crowsville, were in town Wednesday and both orders a Thrice-a-week world to their address.
