NEWS FROM LONG AGO JUNE 29, 1900 FROM THE ACKERMAN RECORD, VOL. 2, NUMBER 15 LOCALS AND PERSONALS: The Supervisors meet in Chester next Monday. - Rev. G. W. Gordon is on the sick list this week. - Mr. Austin Pollard and family visited in Ackerman last Saturday. - Register today. Next Thursday is the last day the books will be open. [for voting] - Mr. Will S. Black, the popular constable of Beat 4, was in town Thursday morning. - John M. Harris has finished his labors as census enumerator and sent in his report. - W. J. Daniel and wife attended the Herndon-Boyd nuptials at French Camp Wednesday. - Mr. W. A. Hanna, who has been wrestling with a slow fever for several weeks, is able to attend to business again. Messrs. J. H. and G. H. Eddleman were taking advantage of the low price of our enterprise last Friday. - Rev. Wm. Bunton will begin a protracted meeting at the Methodist church next Sunday. He will be assisted by Rev. Zwingne. - Married, at the residence of the bride’s mother on the night of 23rd inst., by A. M. Carr, Esq., Mr. G. T. McCullough to Miss Carrie Malone. We understand that a girl, 12 to 14 years old, the daughter of Tom Fox of the black community, was killed by lightning Tuesday evening near Weir. - Those two progressive citizens, prosperous farmers, and substantial friend of the Record, of the Panhandle, Messrs. R. G. and S. H. Hunt, were visitors to Ackerman last Friday. - We regret exceedingly to chronicle the death of Mrs. Julia Harmon which occurred on last Thursday night after a long sickness. We will publish a more extended notice next week. Miss Mary McAlister and Mrs. H. Henderson of Blue Springs, Miss. came down last Friday to attend the funeral of their sister, Mrs. J. W. Harmon. - Our friend, Mr. John C. Kilpatrick, was in town Monday and paid his subscription to the RECORD to the year 1901 and also had the Thrice-a-Week World sent to his address. Uncle John knows a good thing when he sees it. - Mr. J. W. Reed of Bywy, one of the most prosperous business men and farmers of the county, was in town last Monday and while here paid his subscription away up ahead. Mr. Reed has ever been one of the RECORD’s true friends and substantial supporters. Messrs. J. L. Seawright and G. Therrell went to West Point Monday to attend the District Executive committee meeting. Senator Seawright is a member of the committee and it is due to his efforts that Ackerman was selected as the meeting place for the Congressional convention. - The pleasing prospect presented in the almost assured certainty that W. J. Bryan will be elected President of the U. S. in Nov. gives us confidence that we will have better times the coming year consequently all of us can afford to buy and enjoy some of the delicacies offered for sale by the S. A. Gayarre, East of Bank.
