With large segments of society and the economy shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some things must go forward with one of those being county government.
With that goal in mind, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors held a regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, March 25 to deal with largely routine matters.
To aid the public in safely dealing with the virus, offices in the County Courthouse will now offer curbside service. The Board voted unanimously to authorize Chancery Clerk Steve Montgomery to hire a security firm, TBL Security of Starkville, who will meet citizens at the curb and inquire about their needs, then have personnel from the appropriate office meet that person at his vehicle. This is being done for the safety of the public and county employees.
The deadlines for filing homestead exemption and personal property rendition forms have both been extended by Governor Tate Reeves until May 1st
In other action, the Board:
• Approved an engineering contract with Calvert-Spradling to replace the roof on the Polo Custom Products building.
• Approved the hiring of Bill Shumaker as a solid waste driver.
• Approved purchase of containers for solid waste.
• Approved financing a vehicle for the Drug Court through the Bank of Kilmichael.
• Approved repairs to the Choctaw Nursing & Rehabilitation Center building.
• Approved purchase of an ice-maker for the EMA building.
• Authorized Steve Montgomery to issue a purchase order to purchase a new patrol vehicle for the Sheriff’s Office.
The next scheduled meeting of the Board of Supervisors will be Monday, April 6.
