Students in all schools comprising the Louisville Municipal School District will report for classes on Thursday, August 5.
With the COVID pandemic, and the rising number of Delta variant cases, LMSD Superintendent David Luke stated that most of the protocols put in place for last year will remain, as they were very effective. Those measures include routine cleaning and disinfecting, and social distancing.
However, there will be no mask mandate in place.
The district leaders are recommending masks for unvaccinated staff and students. To aid in the vaccination effort, LMSD partnered with Winston Medical Center to offer vaccinations to faculty and staff members this past Monday, and to students during the Open House on Tuesday. Locations included the Dome, Nanih Waiya Attendance Center and Noxapater Attendance Center.
According to preliminary data, enrollment should remain steady or show a slight increase. Dual enrollment numbers look good, and students can expect new elective courses, and the Career Technical Center continues with a number of offerings to prepare students for a career and to become productive members of the community.
As always, extra-curricular activities will be an important part of the school experience, with sports programs for boys and girls, and other interests such as band and cheerleading.
Luke said, “We went through some unprecedented times last year. Everybody stepped up and did an outstanding job, from organization to providing a quality school experience through every difficult times. And I’m proud of all of the employees of the Louisville Municipal School District.”
