While the nation is gearing up for a general election, Winston County will see two other elected offices on the ballot in November.
The school district has one contested seat – District 2 – on the ballot. Two people have qualified by the deadline for this election – Cynthia Renee Parkes Jones and Ryan Strickland. This seat on the board has been held by Bert Jones since 2019. Jones decided not to run for another term, stating: “It was an honor and I feel we as a board accomplished some good things for the district in my five years of service.”
The deadline for qualifying – a process that involves procuring 50 signatures from certified voters in that district – was September 6.
There are three individuals running in uncontested seats for the Election Commission. This is Judy Lovorn in District 5, Tracy McCully in District 1 and Dean Miller in District 3. These candidates qualified in January of this year.
Winston Countians should also note some important deadlines surrounding voting in the general election on November 5.
Beginning September 6, those who are in need of an absentee ballot may request it in the Circuit Clerk’s office. These will become available on September 23 and individuals may vote absentee until November 2.
On October 5, October 26, and on November 2, both Saturdays, the Circuit Clerk’s office will be open from 8 AM – 12 PM for individuals to cast their absentee ballot in person.
Those who are eligible but not currently eligible to vote may register at the Circuit Clerk’s office beginning October 5, 2024. However, the last day to register is October 7 in order to vote in the November 5, 2024 general election.
The general election will be held on November 5, 2024 with polls opening at 7 AM and closing promptly at 7 PM. The general election this year involves the presidential election as well as Congressional elections.
