The Town of French Camp and French Camp Downtown Historic Preservation were proud to sponsor the first annual Frontier Day May 12.
Over 1200 people out to enjoy a fun-filled day of arts, crafts, food and fellowship. Funds from the event went to the Preservation for the upkeep, maintenance, and improvements to the downtown district.
This event in previous years was named Pioneer Day, and was sponsored by French Camp Academy, making it the first year that it was a community event.
Alan Sibley and the Magnolia Ramblers as well as other music performers provided live entertainment for those in attendance. Other attendees participated in the available wagon trains and horse riders throughout the event grounds. The event also featured a great car show as well as a 5K run for those who like a challenge.
Children were able to enjoy the animals at the Petting Zoo, while other enjoyed watching the historic reenactments, telling stories from old. There were also pottery and blacksmith demonstrations for those who had an interest in those items.
Taste buds were also treated as the various vendors at the event provided homemade goodies as well as treats for the kids.
The crowd was most delighted with the Choctaw Indians in attendance who performed their tribe’s historic dances for all.
Bo Kirby of the Downtown Historic Preservation was pleased with the event’s turnout with it being its first year.
“This is a growing event that is for the first time hosted by the community,” Kirby said. “The event will continue to grow as we add things to it and move forward.”
