Mississippi has traditionally been one of those states that has always boasted a very vibrant 4H program state-wide. This year has been another really good year for a host of 4H programs, Mississippi 4-H has more than 60,000 enrolled members with hundreds of registered volunteers. Mississippi’s 4H programs are focused on providing positive youth development experiences to young people in an array of subject matters.
By enhancing and increasing young people’s knowledge of citizenship, health, leadership, communication skills, energy conservation, agricultural and environmental issues, and foods and nutrition, 4H continues to attract the best young people in, and from every community throughout Mississippi. Learning to grow. Learning to serve. Learning to live. Learning for life. All the while these youth “Learn by Doing”.
Winston County 4H has been a significant part of the state’s 4H success in 2019. Winston host a significant S.A.F.E.T.Y. program (formerly known as Shooting Sports), Robotics, Lego, Kids in the Kitchen, and Sewing Clubs. This year Winston added Sport Fishing, Photography, Bicycling, and Mississippi’s only Kayak Club. As well the addition of a host of skilled volunteers to lead these clubs into the future.
We’re not stopping there. Winston 4H will launch a new program in October called “4H Community Service Club”. This newest Club will partner with Mayor Will Hill and Louisville City Administration to teach members about city government, career opportunities within the city, good stewardship of the community, and much more. We’re not only going to learn valuable life lessons in the classroom, this will be a service oriented club as well.
With the blessing of Louisville City Government, Winston 4H Community Service Club will adopt a city road to keep Louisville clean. This will do more than pick up litter, it will give the 4Hers a sense of responsibility, and community pride that will foster good citizenship skills within our future generation of leaders. We are looking forward to implementing this new program for Winston youth, and keep Winston County growing 4H green. According to MSU Extension Administration, Winston County 4H is growing at an unparalleled rate in Mississippi. We could not do this work, without the support from our community, volunteers, and 4H families. On Behalf of our Extension office staff, 4Hers, and volunteers THANK YOU WINSTON COUNTY for your support!
If your child is interested in City government, or wants to learn environmental stewardship this will be a great program to participate. Or if you’re interested in any of the fore-mentioned programs, give us a call at 662-773-3091.
