As part of a lesson on illustrators, Dee Hazelwood’s third grade students from Winona Christian School wrote a story about Eupora’s special dog, George.
George can be found most days visiting local businesses and is quite famous around town. He even has a Facebook group dedicated to his whereabouts.
“Where’s George?” has over 1,000 members. The Facebook group’s description states, “Just a small-town dog who loves everyone! If you see George feel free to post pictures of him to the group and let’s show George some love. You never know where George might be!”
Winona Christian ninth-grader Natalie Flautt drew a sketch of George to illustrate the story about him.
The students visited Eupora on Jan. 22 to find George and deliver the story and sketch to his owner, Gayle Baker. Their story follows:

Where’s George?

George is a dog from Eupora. He likes to wander around town. George is famous and has his own Facebook page.
One day, he decided he wanted to go on an adventure to meet new people. As the train pulled into the depot, George walked to the track and found an empty car to jump inside. Before he knew what was happening, the train began to move. When the train stopped, George found himself in an unfamiliar town named Winona.
First, George walked to the nearby restaurant and tried to go inside. He was always welcomed in all the stores in Eupora. The owners would not let him inside. George did not understand and was very hungry.
He saw a familiar building up the street where people were getting mail. George wandered up and a man noticed him. The man read his collar and discovered his name was George. The man recognized George as the famous dog from a nearby town.
Next, George walked to SuperValu, where he was petted and fed biscuits. After eating, he took a quick nap on the grass. George wandered down the highway to Winona Christian School. He met lots of friendly faces there and received lots of hugs. He took another nap in the sunshine on the front lawn of the school.
Last, George heard a lot of noise across the highway. He investigated and found lots of people and big animals at the sale barn. George saw a familiar face and realized it was his owner! The owner said, “There you are! We have been looking for you. Everyone has been asking, ‘Where is George?’”
