During their February meeting, the Choctaw County Board of Education received an update from Choctaw County High School Prinicipal, Amber Vowell concerning strategies that are being implemented to help close some achievement gaps.
They also received an update on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requirements that will be published soon by the Mississippi Dept. of Education, concerning what education will be given and how it was determined to MDE according to ESSA guidelines.
The Board discussed the calendar for SY 2019-2020; due to the way the holidays fell and in an effort to build in possible weather days and other breaks, teachers and their assistants that are on 187-day contracts will need to complete a work day of their choosing between the dates of July 22-31st to complete their 187-day contractual obligation.
In other action, the Board:
• Approved all current administrators back for the 2019-2020 school year in their same capacity.
• Approved the consent agenda, which included:
• Workshop and conference requests.
• Field trip requests.
• Personnel retirements and resignations.
• Approved the financial dockets.
The Choctaw County Board of Education meets on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m.
