The Webster County School Board elected board officers for 2019 at a previous meeting
Bobby McMullen (District 1) was re-elected board president and Milton Davis (District 5) was elected vice president/secretary on Jan 14, both by acclamation. Davis succeeds former board member Scott Hollenhead in the latter position.
The board also appointed Hugh Gibson as board attorney for 2019, minutes show.
Superintendent Brian Jones presented an attendance and discipline report for each school for the school year to date, and informed the board of upcoming meeting dates and other relevant material.
Michael Adkins, director of the Webster County Career and Technology Center, introduced Laken Holdiness as the Webster County Board of Education Student of the Month for January.
In other business Jan. 14, records show the board:
• approved the hiring of Richard Hartley as a substitute teacher at East Webster High School effective upon return of background check.
• approved a request for the Eupora High School senior class to take a senior trip to Six Flags over Georgia in April and to sell doughnuts to help fund the trip.
• accepted donations from EWHS Athletic Boosters to EWHS Athletics ($2,641); from David Kilgore, MST Trucking, Deborah S. Kilgore and Gibson Land & Development to the EWHS band for state championship rings ($1,350 total); from Earl Johnson and Meek Insurance Agency to Webster County Schools for Staff Appreciation ($150 total); from the EHS Lady Eagle Diamond Club to EHS softball ($17,000) and from the East Webster Elementary School PTO to EWES for licenses to Mathseeds ($833).
• approved financial reports and the docket of claims.
Agreement with
Families First
The board had a special meeting Jan. 31. Jones informed the board of an agreement the district was entering into with Families First for Mississippi to assist seniors with meeting graduation requirements. No action was taken, according to the minutes.
Board members went into executive session during both January meetings so that Gibson could address them concerning legal matters. No action was taken either time, the minutes reflect.
Rana Mitchell (District 2) was absent Jan. 14.
