Sales tax revenue numbers that reflect December sales are in from the Mississippi Department of Revenue for local municipalities.
MDR collects 81.5 percent of the 7 percent sales tax from municipalities and distributes the remaining 18.5 percent back to the municipalities over a three-month cycle.
These figures reflect municipal sales taxes collected on December sales with last year’s figures in parentheses, followed by fiscal year-to-date collections (since July 1) and last year’s YTD figures in parentheses:
Eupora: $34,642 ($34,661); $244,945 ($251,741)
Maben: $8,506 ($11,789); ($54,473 ($57,912)
Mantee: $1,957 ($2,227); $14,772 ($13,854)
Mathiston: $16,897 ($17,183); ($110,076 ($109,858)
Walthall: $3,191 ($1,256); $25,660 ($8,415)
Correction: Sales tax figures for November, which were published Jan. 30, were actually those for October. The correct November sales tax collections for each town were: Eupora, $35,251; Maben, $7,549; Mantee, $2,107; Mathiston, $52,620; and Walthall, $15,607. It was a reporter’s error.
