The event, hosted by the leadership volunteers for The Cross of Christ project, began at 7:15 a.m. with a prayer of praise by the Rev. Glenda Mays of Gibson Street Church of God in Eupora. The Rev. Charles McClellan of First Baptist Church in Mathiston followed the prayer with the singing of a hymn.
The Rev. Rob Faulk of Chester Baptist Church in Ackerman then led the crowd in Scripture and reflection, followed by a prayer for the nation by Pastor Ethen Gillespie of Ackerman’s Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ.
Others who read Scripture during the event included the Rev. Travis Gray of First Baptist Church in Eupora, Dr. Wade Stevens of FBC in Mathiston and the Rev. Jerry Lawson of Enon-Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Ackerman.
The Rev. Willy Weddle of Lollars Grove Baptist Church in Eupora led the audience in a prayer for public servants, while the Rev. Randy Bridges of French Camp Baptist Church led a prayer for the cross.
The audience was also delighted with a medley from the Joyful Noise Trio of FBC in Ackerman. The event concluded with a benediction by the Rev. Kyle Ivy of First United Methodist Church in Eupora.
“The prayer service for our nation at the temporary Cross of Christ on July 2 was a huge success due to the fervent prayers of committed Christians, the outpouring of public servants, the devotion and dedicated support of ministers in the Choctaw, Webster and surrounding area and most importantly, the blessing of our Lord,” members of the leadership volunteers stated.
“Many attendees stated they felt moved by the Holy Spirit. It was an important day of people coming together to praise and pray to the Lord for unity, our nation and to give Him praise. Thank you for the wonderful outpouring of attendees.
The next prayer service at the Cross for Christ is scheduled for Thanksgiving week, with the time and date to be announced. Churches and pastors that would like to have a part of the upcoming program, should email mscrossofchrist@gmail.com.
