Families and others are splashing into summer as the City of Louisville works toward completing the expansion of the Louisville Parks & Recreation new area at the corner of Ivy Avenue and Joe Cannon Road.
“This has truly been a labor of love with immeasurable patience over the past couple of years. We are making history with this project in our beloved City by enhancing quality of life and providing a park for all to enjoy and "something for our kids to do”,” said Louisville Mayor Will Hill.
The new facility features a state of the art playground area, two splash pads, four new ball fields, walking track, water fountains, restrooms, concessions, and in the near future the large building will be renovated for multi-purpose activity space. Work has been ongoing throughout the existing park as well as the new area.
The new park areas have not officially opened and the city leaders anticipate in the coming weeks to announce the official opening and dedication. Many community members and visitors alike have already enjoyed the park with children playing in the splash pad areas as well as the playground.
“We respectfully ask for your continued patience as we finalize the project,” stated Mayor Hill.
Mayor Hill addressed the frequently asked questions:
• Is the Park open? The ball fields, the new restrooms, and the building are closed and not to be used until we are complete. The playground area and splash pads are considered open for "Soft Opening". Any area is subject to being closed at anytime for the purpose of completing the task at hand.
• What are hours? The City Parks and Recreation staff test ran the splash pad from 10:a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily
• When will it be open and complete? City leaders anticipate the first of July for an official opening.
• Disruptive, destructive, or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated and the City of
Louisville reserves the right to close the park or remove problems at anytime.
“We ask everyone to take ownership of our new facilities by helping the City of Louisville staff take care of the park. Rules will be posted yet none more important than the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Let's work together to take care of the park, pickup the trash and be courtesy to one another,” stated Mayor Hill.
