A child who was accidentally shot in Mantee should make a full recovery, according to the Webster County Sheriff’s Department.
Webster 911 reports show the incident was reported about 8:50 a.m. May 21. Sheriff’s Deputy Dillion Cates said it occurred inside a home in the 900 block of Mantee Road near the Clarkson community.
Cates said the child was accidentally shot by another child. The child was injured in the chest by a 9mm pistol they were playing with, he stated. Cates confirmed they were brothers but would not release their ages.
The wounded child was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora before being flown by NMMC CareFlight to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Cates said the boy was in good condition as of May 22 and is expected to make a full recovery. No charges will be filed as it is an accidental shooting, he said.
