During their February 19 meeting, the Louisville Board of Aldermen dealt with a number of issues including adoption of the Cemetery Ordinance which can be seen on the City of Louisville website at: www.cityoflouisvillems.com.
The ordinance clarifies language of past ordinances, and makes official the renaming of the cemetery. In years past, the cemetery on John C. Stennis Dr. has been referred to as Memorial Park Cemetery and Memorial Garden was accessed from Armstrong St. Since the two cemeteries have been operated and maintained as one, it was only logical that they should become one. The ordinance officially renames the cemetery as Louisville Memorial Cemetery. The Board voted 3-0 to adopt the ordinance. Aldermen Gwenita Mays and Drew Massey were not present at the meeting.
The Board voted 3-0 to acknowledge and approve a memorandum of understanding for Senate Bill 2002, 2018 First Extraordinary Session, laws of 2018, awarding the City $500K for South Industrial Road. This project concerns a designed new road to connect South Church Avenue to the industrial property behind Winston Plywood & Veneer which would provide an alternate route for log trucks and make more property accessible for industrial development. The vote also authorized Mayor Will Hill to proceed in securing the money and to advance the project.
The Board voted 3-0 to acknowledge a grant of $21.5K from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, Inc. to Louisville Fire Dept. for the purchase of Hurst extrication equipment. There are no matching funds involved in the grant.
In other action, the Board:
· Recognized members of Boy Scout Troop 5 who were present for the meeting.
· Voted 3-0 to accept a petition for rezoning from R&D Properties to rezone property on West Main St. From R-1 Residential Large Lot to B-2 (Business) Highway Commercial, and set a hearing for Monday, march 18 at 6 p.m. and gave notice of rezoning petition.
· Voted 3-0 to accept the resignation of Police Officer, Joshua Jolly, effective February 21.
