Jack O’ Lantern Jam will take place on Saturday, October 26, beginning at 5 p.m. around the Choctaw County Courthouse square in Ackerman. This is a free, family fun event sponsored by the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce, 4-County Electric Power Association, Boral Resources, Franklin Telephone Company, Mississippi Lignite Mining Company, Kevin Null – Attorney at Law, Southeastern Timber Products and Southern Company Services – Red Hills Operations.
To help make this event a huge success, the support of the community is needed. There are several ways you can participate in Jack O’ Lantern Jam. Decorate your trunk or a truck bed and hand out candy to kids. Or setup a carnival type game/activity with prizes. Use the trunk-or-treat and the games as an opportunity to advertise your business or an outreach opportunity for church, organization or club. No fees to enter the trunk-or-treat or games. You need to register for the trunk-or-treat and games with the Chamber by Friday, October 11.
There are many family fun activities planned for the evening including the Trunk-or-Treat, Games, Inflatables, Haunted Library, Outdoor Movie and the Scarecrow Trail (at the Walking Track). All activities are free. We can’t forget the Jail N’ Bail (small fee).
Activities will kick off at 5pm! All activities will be first come, first serve. Concessions will be available to purchase.
The 10th Annual Scarecrow Contest is held at the walking track in Ackerman. All scarecrows must be set up at the walking track (Main Street, Ackerman) on October 21st, between 4–5:30 p.m. The scarecrows will remain on exhibit through November 2. No fees to enter. The Master Gardeners will choose a Most Creative Scarecrow. The winner will receive $25 cash and certificate. New this year is the Haunted Library sponsored by the Choctaw County Library System. Make your way to the Ackerman Branch to tour the “haunted library” and more.
The library is also sponsoring the outdoor movie. Bring your chairs or blankets and prepare to stay and watch Halloweentown. The movie will be setup outside the library and will start at dusk.
The Jail’ N Bail is coming back for a second year. You can put your friends, family and kids in “jail’ for a small fee. We will release them shortly after or if they can make “bail” they will be released faster. Participants must be present at Jack O’ Lantern Jam. The Jail N’ Bail is a fundraiser for next year’s Jack O’ Lantern Jam.
