This past Monday morning the newly elected officials of Choctaw County met in the Courtroom to take their oath of office which was administered by Circuit Judge Joseph Loper. Loper stated that the officials of Choctaw County are the best and their service to the community is unapparelled, and that it makes him proud to reside in Choctaw County.
A large number of friends and family gathered for support as the officials raised their right hands and swore to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the laws of Mississippi to the best of their ability.
Those taking the oath were newly elected Sheriff Brandon Busby, Supervisors Joey Stephenson, Chris McIntire, John Shumaker and Greg Fondren, Circuit Clerk Amy Burdine, Chancery Clerk Steve Montgomery, Tax Assessor/Collector Lori Power Kerr, Justice Court Judges William Stephenson and Teresa Weeks, Constables Roy Carter and Thomas Raybourn, and Coroner Keith Coleman. Supervisor Mark Bruce was unable to attend but had taken the oath at an earlier time.
Sheriff Busby stated, “I really appreciate everybody in this county putting their trust in me, and everything that I campaigned on I fully intend to put in place.” He added that he intends to place an emphasis on the drug problem, working more closely with the schools, and even cleaning up some of the roadways. Busby said that he recognizes the responsibility that he has, and is thankful to have a good crew as they are essential to doing the job.
