More than $2.6 million authorized by the Legislature for road and bridge repairs is headed to Webster County.
The Mississippi Transportation Commission announced Jan. 22 which projects will receive funds designated during the last special session. The Department of Transportation voted to send the money that was set aside by the Legislature last August to local governments to begin infrastructure projects. The $250 million will go toward 163 projects around the state.
Cities and counties applied for money through MTC, which prioritized bridge or road deficiencies that impeded safety, economic vitality or mobility.
The funded projects include bridge repairs on two roads in Webster County. It will receive $1,998,381 for bridge repairs at three sites on Tomahawk Road and $606,050 for one site on Lollars Grove Road.
“Today’s action is good news for Mississippi counties and cities that stand ready to get to work on road and bridge needs,” Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said Jan. 22. “Maintaining infrastructure is a core function of government, and I am pleased we were able to pay for these repairs without raising taxes.”
House Speaker Philip Gunn also released a statement about the Emergency Road and Bridge Repair Fund.
“The funds that the Legislature secured during the special legislative session last year for emergency road and bridge replacement is being put to work,” he said. “I commend them on acting quickly and look forward to seeing the work begin.”
