Southern Company Services, operator of the Red Hills Power Plant, recently hosted a Student Career Fair.
The Career Fair was for high school students who are current members of the technical classes at the Choctaw County Career and Technology Center.
During their visit, CCCTC students were invited to observe how Southern Company operates daily and the students were exposed to future career opportunities Southern Company can offer them.
It was the mission of the Community Involvement Team at Red Hills Operations to educate these students on future options for their career paths and what steps to take educationally to help them achieve their goals. Members of the Maintenance and Instrument Control teams provided hands on demonstrations to the students. This allowed the students to observe how they could use the skills they are learning at the Choctaw County Career and Technology Center in the future at their place of employment.
Linemen with Southern Company’s Mississippi Power division were also in attendance to answer questions and show the students some of the tools and equipment they use daily.
Representatives from Holmes Community College, East Mississippi Community College and the Mississippi Army National Guard were also in attendance to discuss with the students what they could provide in terms of educational guidance and scholarship opportunities.
