On film, French Camp coach Nathan Wright said he thought that Pisgah was better than last year.
He got to see it in person on Friday night.
The Dragons used a stingy defense and took a 39-6 win over the Panthers.
French Camp dropped to 0-4 on the season and will host Central Holmes Academy this week.
Wright said the loss was as much about Pisgah as it was his team.
“Their kids played really hard,” Wright said. “They are much improved over last year. They played a bunch of kids and just kept on coming at us. But we were really our own worst enemy on Friday night. We are just having trouble with the fundamentals of the game. At this point in the season, I thought we would have had that figured out by now. We will play one quarter really well and not so well the next. We just need to be more consistent.”
The Dragons scored once in the first and then added 19 points in the second quarter to lead 26-0 at the half. Pisgah added a third-quarter score to go up 33-0 and both teams scored six in the fourth quarter for the final margin.
“We are just trying to figure out a way to adjust to what is going on,” Wright said. “And to make matters worse, we don’t have any depth so the ones out there just have to go. We have a few kids that are playing hard and we did show that we are capable. We moved the ball in the third quarter and got some yard but just didn’t finish the drive. I wished we had played but we just haven’t played well so far. I think we have just shown a lack of consistency in doing the little things well.”
The Panthers had 93 yards passing and 141 yards rushing. Logan Wright had 122 yards rushing on 15 carries. Wright was also 6-of-18 passing for 93 yards. J.J. Walker had two catches for 41 yards while Will Surrette had one catch for 37 yards. Dylan Donald had three catches for 15 yards.
Walker led the defense with 13 tackles while Donald had 11 tackles and two tackles for loss. Wright had nine tackles and led the team with seven solo tackles. Justin Anavitarte had eight tackles while Jon Leach had seven tackles Max McCoy had six tackles while Hunter Buntyn had five tackles. Ty Martin, Ryder Henderson and Rylan Moore had four tackles while Will Surrette had three tackles.
Wright also had an interception on defense for the Panthers.
This week’s game
The Panthers will be at home this week as they host Central Holmes.
the Trojans are 2-3 on the season and have lost their last three. They started the season with a 21-19 win over Oak Hill and then beat West Memphis Christian 44-12. They then lost to Kirk (36-8), Greenville Christian (40-0) and Indianola (28-14).
“I haven’t really look much at Central Holmes,” Wright said on Tuesday. “Right now, I’m looking real hard at us and just trying to correct us. We have gone back to the basics and tried to correct the things we are doing wrong and work on us before we start division play. I just thought we would have had a lot of that worked out by now.”
Last year, French Camp lost 56-32 to Central Holmes.
