100 Years Ago – March 14, 1919
LOUISVILLE: Miss Kittie McMillin entertained at a six o’clock dinner Sunday evening, March 9th, complimentary to seven young soldiers and navy boys, who have recently received their discharges, and seven popular young ladies of our town. - Dr. H. H. Davis is seriously ill and was thought he could not live through last night. Something like blood poison seems to be the trouble. - Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Danner left this week for New Albany, where they go to live. Mr. Danner is a lineman on the railroad. They will be missed. - Mrs. A. McCauley and children from New Albany are spending this week with relatives, enroute to Mobile, where she is to make her future home.
DEATHS: Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Linch received the sad news Wednesday that their oldest son, Ed, had died at his home in Bessemer, Ala. of Pneumonia. He was an affable, well-liked man of middle age and leaves several devoted children to mourn his untimely departure. - Mr. M. O. Taggart received the sad news Saturday that his oldest son had died at the Chickasaw Ship Yards in Mobile. Gerald was ill a short time with pneumonia. His remains were brought home Sunday, accompanied by his two aunts, Mrs. Alma Freeman and Mrs. L. W. Brewer, who both live in Alabama. Interment was in Baptist cemetery. Gerald was a bright and industrious boy of seventeen years and his death is a sad loss to his father and brothers and sisters.
NOXAPATER: Irvin Carter and Charlie Gladden, who were both recently in France and having been discharged, are home to the delight of their friends. - Dr. R. M. Webb and family left Tuesday for Stallo where they will make their home in the future. - Mrs. Wren Coleman returned home Friday from a few weeks visit with relatives at Rockmont, Ga., Birmingham, Ala., and Laurel. She was accompanied home by her sister, Mrs. Yelk. - Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Webb left Saturday for Colorado where they go to make their home.
75 Years Ago – March 10, 1944
FRONT PAGE: Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Adcock have three sons in the armed services. Cpl. John S. Adcock has been overseas for 22 months and currently is in the Ascension Islands. Cpl. Earnest Adcock has been in England for 14 months. Private Ralph Adcock has been in service for 5 months and currently is at Camp Robinson, Arkansas.
NOXAPATER: Mrs. Ruby Yarbrough has purchased the Lampley house (formerly known as the Shepherd house) on East Main Street and she and family moved in this week. - Arthur Woodward, stationed at Hot Springs, Ark., is home on a short furlough visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Woodward. - Miss Etta Mae Triplett of Grenada spent the week end her visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Triplett and family. - Sam Myatt of the U. S. Navy, stationed in Great Lakes, Ill., is spending his furlough here with his family and other relatives.
ELLISION RIDGE: Several families in this community have the measles. We hope they recover soon. - Jefferson D. Kelley, Jr. of the U. S. Navy is spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Kelley.
