(Aug. 4) Today I feel as I must write. Things run through my mind that I feel need to come out through my pen. Some of you will understand and some of you will not.
Today has been a good Sunday — church this morning with a wonderful and inspiring sermon by Brother Jack, good singing and praying and visiting. It doesn’t matter if it’s only eight people or 80 — the joy of the Lord was there. This afternoon I sat in my favorite recliner, just looking out the front window at the maple leaves that are so green and still — perfectly still and peaceful.
We do this a lot of times — perfectly quiet for long periods of time, just still and thinking and meditating. I was thinking of sometimes when the wind is blowing how they flip and flop and twist and turn.
Aren’t we sometimes like that? Unsettled, restless, tossing to and fro during these times when the winds are blowing. If there are seed on the trees they are blown here and there, some far and some near. Some will grow and some will just sit where they fall and never take root. Others will sprout and multiply. Our deeds are like seed. Some will be worthwhile and some not, also our words.
The Holy Spirit is like the wind we are told. You can’t see it but you can see what it does. God our Father is in control of Jesus our Savior. Mary was chosen for that seed to be planted. How great our God is — the ruler of the wind and Holy Spirit. We are so small, so unlearned and weak that only with his strength can we continue on from day to day.
I pray this week that peace will rule in your hearts and mine, and that we may plant some seed that will flourish and grow into what would advance this kingdom in this world of strife.
It was only yesterday after we got to church that we learned of the two mass shootings. We don’t watch TV much anymore. My heart was so sorrowful for all the families of these victims and so upset that our world is so full of so much hate.
We are told there is a time for everything under the sun. We do not understand so much and why all these things are happening.
People, we must get into our Bibles, study and pray and pray. Love is the only answer and we all know that God is love. And the opposite of love is hate, and we know where it comes from. If it’s not from God it is from the devil.
Today we must choose! May God fill you with his love today. He loves you no matter who you are. He loves you no matter where you are.
I ask your prayers for us as we strive to go on from day to day.
Until next time.
