A Mississippi Representative, that represents District 45 which includes a portion of Winston County was arrested in Kemper County for receiving/possession stolen property.
WTOK out of Meridian reported that Rep. Keith Jackson (D-Preston), turned himself into the Kemper County Sheriff’s Department.
According to the report, Jackson was indicted by a Kemper County Grand Jury and his name was called during arraignment day on Friday, March 22 in DeKalb.
The report states that Jackson allegedly possessed a stolen log trailer and used it in his business.
Two other men, William Tate and Fredwrick Young are also facing charges in the same case. Kemper County Sheriff James Moore told WTOK that Jackson was an employee for Young and when Young told Jackson that he wanted to sell the trailer, Jackson arranged for Young and Tate to meet. Moore said the trailer has since been returned to the rightful owner.
The report states that Jackson was released Monday, March 25 on a $2,500 bond. The reports states that Jackson turned himself in earlier that morning.
His court date was set for May 28.
An indictment is not a conviction and Jackson is still presumed innocent until proven guilty.
