PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police have arrested and charged a man in a fatal shooting reported last Friday morning on Bay Street, authorities say.
The man, Jatarrius M. Kelly, 23, of Philadelphia is being charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Lamontae “Shun” Salley, 26, of Eupora.
Philadelphia Police Chief Eric Lyons said Kelly was wounded in the incident and was arrested on the scene. He is currently being booked into the Winston-Choctaw County Detention Center.
On Dec. 8 around 9:40 a.m. officers responded to the 300 block of Bay Street in response to reports of a male subject being shot, Lyons said.
Upon arrival at that scene, officers discovered a black male in the doorway of the residence with a gunshot wound to the leg and another male subject in the next room with a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Lyons. The man with the wound to his leg was identified as Kelly and the man with the wound to the chest was identified as Salley, the victim.
He said the male subject initially in the doorway was transported by ambulance and police to Neshoba General Hospital. The second male subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial investigation has determined that an apparent physical altercation between the two men led to the shooting.
“The investigation is still ongoing and further charges are expected,” Lyons said.
