A Eupora man facing felony charges in at least two counties remains in custody in Grenada.
Authorities arrested William David Oakman, 33, on Sept. 18 in Grenada and charged him with identity theft, WTVA News reported.
Grenada County sheriff’s investigator Joey Ward told the station the incident dated back to June 2022 in Oktibbeha County. Ward alleged Oakman went there and got a driver’s license while posing as his brother.
Oakman then went to a bank in Grenada on Sept. 15 and withdrew approximately $3,000 from his brother’s bank account, according to Ward. The investigator said Oakman then tried to withdraw $6,000 on Sept. 18 but was arrested. Ward said Oakman was on parole from the Mississippi Department of Corrections at the time of his arrest.
Oakman has also been charged by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office with grand larceny, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Webster County Jail records show he was booked here on those charges, plus possession of paraphernalia, on Oct. 20 and was transferred back to the Grenada County Jail that afternoon.
His bond on the local charges was set at $16,000 during an initial appearance. Public Defender Stephanie Mallette was appointed to represent Oakman and he was to appear in Webster County Justice Court today, Nov. 3.
Affidavits filed by Sgt Brandon Chaille, Chief Deputy JC Smith and Deputy Andrew Rogers of the WCSO allege Oakman stole a 2005 Ford F-150 truck from Courtney Harrison while at 691 S. Dunn St on May 31, pointed a handgun at Jimmy Gary and threatened him with it at Oakman’s residence at 135 Hill St. on June 27, and, after being previously convicted of a felony, possessed a .410-guage shotgun at his residence on July 7.
