In their regular meeting, on Monday, September 20, the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors heard from Toby Sanford, GS Director of Golden Triangle Planning and Development District, concerning the 2020 census and redistricting.
According to the census, the population of Choctaw County stands at 8,246. Sanford reported that the results will require redistricting, and presented a plan in which Districts 1 and 4 will gain a small amount of the population, and District 5 will lose a small amount. He added that other plans can be developed if needed. Sanford noted that Supervisor Districts were 17.77% out of alignment. He added the Justice Court districts were only 6.99% out of align and therefore did not need to be changed.
A public hearing concerning redistricting has been set for Monday, October 18, at 10 a.m.
Amy Latham, a 9-1-1 dispatcher, spoke to the Board concerning raises that the Sheriff's Dept. dispatchers had received and requested the same raises for 9-1-1 personnel. It was explained that the plan is to move 9-1-1 and the Choctaw SO dispatchers into the same facility and have them cross-train, and at that time the 9-1-1 dispatchers would receive raises, and that the Board would need to go into executive session to discuss the matter before anything could be done at this time.
In other action, the Board:
•Heard from Fire Coordinator, Blaine Adams, who requested that yearly fire contracts and checks be sent to the individual departments.
•Heard from POLO representatives about closing the roof project out.
The Choctaw County Board of Supervisors meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 9 a.m.
