In an effort to aid those who are interested in entering the field of nursing, Choctaw County Regional Medical Center has set up the CRMC Nursing Education Scholarship program.
According to Kim Thomas, CRMC Asst. Director of Nurses, the program will actually offer a living stipend, rather than a set amount, to the recipients which can be used to help cover whatever needs they may have. And the scholarship will last for however long it takes the recipient to complete his/her degree.
To be eligible for the program interested parties must complete an application which can be downloaded from the Medical Center's website: www.choctawregional.com. They must provide three letters of recommendation, and write a fifteen-hundred word essay entitled 'What This Scholarship Means to Me.'
Applications and essays will be reviewed by CRMC's scholarship committee, and prospective recipients will be interviewed by the committee, as well. And recipients will be required to sign an agreement stating that they will work for Choctaw Regional Medical Center for the same amount of time that the scholarship lasts. For instance, if a recipient received the scholarship for two years, they would agree to work for CRMC for two years.
The deadline for applying for the scholarship is January 31, 2022. Thomas added that this first year the plan is to award one to three scholarships, and from there determine how things should go forward.
The program is open to Choctaw County residents, and employees of CRMC regardless of residency, and there is a focus on high school students who are preparing to start their careers.
