The Eupora Board of Aldermen had a special-called meeting the evening of Aug. 9.
Aldermen first approved a motion concerning the Central Commercial District, or C-1, of the zoning ordinance. They voted to amend the list of special exceptions in C-1 to include duplex apartment buildings or any other multifamily dwellings.
The board set a related public hearing for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at City Hall.
Access Road
Land Swap
Board Attorney Joey Hood discussed approval of a land swap at West Industrial Park needed for an access road project. Jim Smith owns the property involved, which is the former Brooks Logging site.
The board approved a motion stating the property is necessary for the industrial access road and authorizing appraisals.
The city has been appropriated $100,000 in legislative bond funds for a basic roadway from U..S 82 to a 20-acre “Ready Site” west of Plymouth Tube.
Land Appraisal
Also last week, the board authorized a second appraisal for a proposed well lot near Grady not being used.
In June 2020, aldermen authorized the purchase of the 1.33-acre lot and easement for the appraised value of $1,995 from Shirley G. Gary, with the funds to be taken out of the Water Department.
The city planned to build a new water well there as part of water system improvements. However, a test well dug at the site is not producing and Gary wants to buy the land back, according to meeting discussion.
Other Action
Other action taken by the board on Aug. 9:
• Approved an application for a retail beer permit and license from Family Dollar/Dollar Tree, which has opened in the former Fred’s location at 1960 Veterans Memorial Blvd.
• Approved Water Department employee Michael Potts to attend a water certification class.
• Tabled the agenda item “Get Rolled — Section of Garan Parking lot rental” until Sept. 7.
• Set a public hearing for the 2021-22 budget and tax levy for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1. The city is not proposing a tax increase.
Vice Mayor Jerry Gary presided in the absence of Mayor Blake McMullan. Robert Gibbs (Ward 4) was absent.
