Winston Forestry Association (WFA) had an awesome turnout for the opening 2022 program Thursday night!
We welcomed two new board members, Ms. Rhonda Schotts of Winston USDA/FSA, and the Deal Man himself Mr. Speedy Calvert of Winston Plywood.
We appreciate them for stepping up to help lead WFA for our county’s forest landowners.
It was a great night of education and fellowship with some of Winston county’s finest people. The program gave the Association members an optimistic outlook. The news of a potential new revenue stream through an innovative Carbon Credit stewardship program provoked attendees to think about land management profits. The new program provided by Mississippi’s Department of Agriculture and Commerce’s wild hog trapping cost-share gave everyone food for thought in the area of wildlife management. Both programs offered attendees new and innovative ways to make land management, and timber production more sustainable, and profitable.
Last but not least, thanks to Dr. Brady Self, MSU Extension Forestry Specialist for speaking to the association members and assuring them MSU Extension is here for them anytime. I certainly echo his statement on the county level as well. In lieu of all the negative news these days, this night was a bit of good news that encouraged attendees to keep land stewardship as the highest of priorities for their property.
Folks you’re missing out if you’re a land manager and/or have forest land and you’re not a WFA member.
