Alderman Mary Margaret Williams was the only qualifier for mayor in Mantee and was expected to be appointed to that office last night.
Mary Frances Baker resigned as mayor effective May 31 and a special election was set for July 12 to fill the remaining three years of her term.
Town Clerk Courtney Scerbak said Williams was the only person who submitted qualifying forms by the June 22 deadline. All of the electors on her petition have been certified.
Scerbak said the Mantee board was to meet Tuesday night to officially dispense of the special election, appoint Williams as mayor and set the date for a special election to fill her alderman seat.
Williams was one of three new board members elected a year ago. The remaining members of the Mantee Board of Aldermen are Andrew Bigham, Bill Gilliland, Jill Roberson (mayor pro tempore) and Jimmy Stevens.
