A Weir man was killed in a single-car crash over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period as the Mississippi Highway Patrol released their summary over the five-day period.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol release, Westley Jermont Ashford, 42, of Weir, was traveling on McGee-Thompson Road in a 2012 Mercedes Benz when Ashford’s vehicle left the right side of the road and overturned.
Ashford was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation by MHP.
Ashford’s crash is one of three that is currently being investigated over the period. The other two are in Jackson County where a vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian and in Copiah County, where a man died in a single-car crash.
The Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Period concluded Sunday, November 26th, at midnight. The period began on Wednesday, November 22nd. The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 6,766 citations, made 109 arrests for impaired driving, and investigated 169 crashes resulting in 43 injuries with three fatal crashes and three deaths.
There were 109 DUIs, 45 drug related arrests, and 85 motorists assists.
