Choctaw County Forestry Association held their annual meeting May 12 at Pap’s Place.
Marc Measells with MSU Extension Forestry discussed the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and
presented a program on carbon credit programs.
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative is a program to ensure that future generations get the same benefit from the forest as present day.
It's all based on sustainability, the Forestry Association and Extension office covered how to be economically sustainable, socially sustainable, in terms of following all the regulations, and environmentally sustainable.
Under the initiative, forest management should held clean water, and clean air and forest products. The Sustainable Forestry Initiative is improving practices, so foresters benefit the environment and raise good forest products.
Officers were also elected. Serving as officers for 2022-2023 will be: Brian Lucas – President, Juli Hughes – Vice-President, Katherine Black - Secretary
