From slingshot drivers to Corvettes to horses to a big rig – over sixty entrants participated in the Winston County NAACP’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebratory parade.
Ms. Dean Miller, head of the chapter, was busy lining everyone up at the Coliseum Saturday morning. The weather was sunny yet a bit chilly, but this didn’t serve to put a damper on the festivities.
The parade was led by members of the Louisville High School band with the Buffalo Soldiers first in the lineup. Multiple local churches participated, as did schools. Both the Louisville Fire Department and the Louisville Police Department offered entries in the parade, and the Winston County Sheriff as well as Constable Ed Hunt participated. Multiple elected officials were in the parade as well.
The Grand Marshall of the parade was Louisville High School’s Coach Tyrone Shorter.
Prior to the parade, Derek Coleman and his organization fired up the grill to feed all participants at the end of the event. Ms. Miller wanted to provide a special thanks, not only to Coleman, but to all who donated food.
Miller also thanked those who came from all over the area to participate, including individuals from Macon, Columbus, Weir, Ackerman, and even Alabama.
