What started out as a “dream” is about to become a reality. On Saturday, Oct. 14, it is estimated that between 600-700 former students, teachers, staff, coaches and families will once again walk the hallways of the historic Eupora High School.
Classes from the Decade of the ’70s and ’80s have been invited to return to campus for a day of visiting, reminiscing, photos and simply just having fun. The response has been almost overwhelming to say the least and we are excited about this event.
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. on the lawn of the campus under tents set up by class volunteers and marked by maroon banners. Meet your classmates at your respective tents — then visit with other classes as well as you will see old friends there too. Hope you can recognize them!
Food truck vendors will be available for you to grab lunch and sit with your friends while reminiscing, taking photos or simply just enjoying the festivities. Or if you prefer, you might get a group together and visit one of the local restaurants who will be offering reunion specials.
The Eupora Juniorettes will be assisting by selling maroon T-shirts at the event. You can purchase your own T-shirt on campus or they will be on sale later in the evening at the street dance. Proceeds from the sale of T-shirts will go to the Alumni Association to help offset expenses for this event.
One of the highlights of the event will be visiting and touring the Alumni Room, which is filled with memorabilia from bygone school years. Walk the halls and look at the class composite photos hanging in both the east and west halls. It will take you back in history.
At 1 p.m., all classes will be seated together and recognized so everyone will want to be in the auditorium at that time. The annual Alumni Association meeting will be held while recognizing those who have worked diligently to make this event happen. This meeting will last approximately 30 minutes, then the remainder of your time can simply be spent browsing the building, campus or simply just having fun.
A long-awaited project for the EHS Alumni Association will be unveiled at the annual alumni meeting as a part of the Decade of the ’70s and ’80s reunion on Oct. 14. A little more than a year ago, the Alumni Association began a fundraising project to replace the maroon velvet curtains in the auditorium. With the generous financial help of a number of former students and teachers, the drapes will be hung and ready by the reunion on Oct. 14. A list of donors will be recognized but a formal dedication of the drapery project will be at a later date.
Saturday evening, beginning at 6 p.m., there will be a street dance “Down on Dunn” — come sit on the steps with your friends or bring a lawn chair and enjoy music of the ’70s and ’80s. There is no admission charge for this event.
Dress is casual for all events and we encourage you to bring your own lawn chair to both events. Visitors to the campus are reminded that alcohol is prohibited on the school grounds. Security and EMTs will also be available in the event of any emergencies.
All former teachers, coaches and staff have a special invitation to attend. You will be recognized at the 1 p.m. meeting.
