A local traffic stop led to charges of drug trafficking, among others, being filed against four people last week.
The traffic stop occurred the afternoon of Nov. 22 in the westbound lane of U.S. 82 near the Highway 9 exit, according to Sgt. Brandon Chaille of the Webster County Sheriff's Department. He said the driver of the vehicle involved was stopped for careless driving.
The resulting investigation led to the seizure of approximately 7 pounds of marijuana, Chaille said. The four occupants, all from Oakland, Calif., were booked into the Webster County Jail about 4 p.m. Those arrested and their charges were:
• Roshawn N. Green, 29: drug trafficking, possession of drug paraphernalia-two counts and conspiracy
• Dante Menifee, 32: drug trafficking, two seatbelt citations, following too closely, suspended DL and conspiracy.
• Ebony Monroe, 27: drug trafficking and conspiracy.
• Keith Hayes, 30: drug trafficking, possession of controlled substance and conspiracy.
Justice Court Judge Rebecca Ellison set bond for each at $1.75 million and the defendants are scheduled to appear in court this Friday. They had no attorneys as of Monday, according to the Justice Court office.
The four remain in jail on holds from the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, which Chaille said is working alongside the sheriff's office in the investigation.
