The Winston County Federation of Democratic Women (WCFDW) attended the Women in Blue at the Capitol Day, Tuesday, March 21, 2023. President, Ms. Linda Floyd, Mrs. Tamara Frazier and Mrs. Anita Terrell were in attendance. The WCFDW was chartered April 2022.
"Women in Blue '' is a proud tradition of federated clubs which annually choose one day to speak with their legislators about issues that affect their local communities, their states, their country and the world. These issues are wide-ranging but are of particular relevance to women and families. The National Federated Democratic Women (NFDW) colors are blue and white and the women dressed in blue on that day as a symbol of their solidarity.
This year's NFDW Women in Blue's theme is "Women Making History”. It features all-stars from across the country and other notable guests. The focus was advocating for women's rights and paying tribute to Women's History Month.
The Mississippi Federation of Democratic Women (MFDW) is the state's official branch of the NFDW and shares its ideals and goals. The MFDW has chapters scattered across the state and is working to establish an active presence in each county.
The MFDW was formed in 1983, when a group of interested women from across the state of Mississippi met when the State Democratic Executive Committee met in Jackson, MS. Their purpose was to establish a state federation of Democratic women. The counties that pioneered this effort were Adams, Harrison, Hancock, Hinds, Jefferson, Lee, Neshoba, Tate, Pike, Marion, Walthall, and Washington. The Democratic Party of the State of Mississippi provided initial and sustaining support of the federation.
