During the August 2 Winston County Board of Supervisors meeting, the supervisors approved the Finalized Tax Roll For 2021 upon recommendation of Tax Assessor/Collector Darlene Bane.
Bane also notified of the upcoming tax sale.
Tax Sale planned
Darlene Bane, Tax Assessor/Collector, is pleased to announce that Winston County’s Land Tax Sale for delinquent 2020 taxes will be conducted exclusively online. The auction hosted by GovEase will begin on August 30, 2021, at 8:30 a.m. CST and will continue each subsequent day until all parcels have been offered for sale. The sale will be a live bid auction hosted at http://govease.com/auctions.
Online registration began on August 2nd. After registration, an individual must still arrange payment and verify registration with the county. This process must be completed prior to any bidding.
Parcels with delinquent taxes will be published in the Winston County Journal on August 11th and 18th. Bane stated names are not printed in the newspaper to embarrass taxpayers.
“The goal is to make taxpayers aware of outstanding taxes. By spotting their names in the paper they will save money on penalties and fees by paying the delinquent taxes. If ignored the landowner could possibly lose their property. Names are printed to give awareness of the tax balance. This process is required by the laws of the State of Mississippi.”
According to Bane this will be the fourth year for the auction to be held using an online format with GovEase.
“We have been very pleased with the transition to online bidding. During the prior three years, I have opened our office on Saturday afternoon before the sale. This has given our citizens without computer access a chance to use our office equipment to place pre-bids if they need assistance. We expect to offer that service this year while practicing social distancing beginning at 1:00 on Saturday, August 28th.”
The board of Supervisors approved the tax office to be open Saturday, August 28.
Bane added she and her staff are available to answer any questions the public may have concerning delinquent taxes, the registration for bidding, or the selling process. They may be reached at 662-773-3694.
