Week one of the baseball season could have been better for the Louisville Wildcats as first year coach Nich Morrow and his team took on two Winston county schools in three of the games played but couldn’t come away with a win.
It started on the road in game one against the Nanih Waiya Warriors. A relatively close games early was blown wide open in the fourth inning as the Warriors scored 14 runs in the fourth inning and run-ruled the Wildcats 22-4 in five frames. It was 5-2 after the first inning and the game went back and forth with the Wildcats trailing 6-4 going into the bottom of the third. NW scored two runs in the bottom of that frame and then exploded for the big inning in the fourth to come away with the win.
The runs came early in a 14-2 loss to Choctaw County. For the second-straight game, LHS came out with a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but the Wildcats gave up 11 in the bottom of the inning. The Chargers scored three more in the second to put the game fully out of reach.
On Saturday, LHS had its first home game of the season against Noxapater and came up short in a slugfest 18-7. The loss dropped the team to 0-3 in the first week of action.
If weather permits, they’ll get back on the field this week for three more games. The Wildcats were slated to take on Winona on Tuesday on the road and come back home on the weekend to play two very challenging games against Heritage Academy at 7 p.m. on Friday and Neshoba Central on Saturday at Noon.
