Weir Elementary School held its third annual Science Fair. Students in first through sixth grade conducted scientific investigations on their chosen science experiments. WES students were judged from a scoring sheet that graded their ability to write out a clear Scientific Question, hypothesis, procedure, and conclusion. Students were required to list their materials; and include both pictures and a chart of their data. During the judge’s presentation, they were asked to explain their experiment, which included talking about how they experimented, what they were trying to find out, and their conclusion.
This is not just about academics, it is also about gaining confidence to present in a different setting than the classroom. A big shout out to all of Weir's parents who conducted science experiments with their student(s). And a big thank you to all of the parents and families who showed up to provide support and encouragement.
The results of the science fair are as follows:
First grade: Skylar Allred (1st); Catherine Hunt (2nd); Travion Lawson (3rd). Second grade: Kylie Crawford (1st); Londyn Watts and Matthew Dossett (2nd); and Ah’drenna Davis (3rd). Third grade: Saul Hernandez (1st); Colton Smith (2nd); and Aluna Tanner (3rd). Fourth grade: Jayden Crosby (1st); Mariah Shells ( 2nd); and Jakobe Dotson (3rd). Fifth grade: Layne Luke (1st); Emily Holliday (2nd); and Madison Reed & Hannah Slater (3rd). Sixth grade: Bentley West (1st); Tayvianna Miller (2nd); and Bryson Alred (3rd).
We are so thankful to our judges who invested their time to come listen to our students talk about their experiments. Pastor Rob Faulk and his wife Julia Faulk (Veteran teacher of 41 years), Mrs. Summer King (Stay-at-home mom), and Mr. Daniel Hunt (Choctaw County Farm Bureau Insurance) were our honored judges.
Special thank you to our principal for supporting science activities and allowing us to have this event at our school. And thank you to all of the faculty and staff of WES for making this experience possible for our students.
