It was a good week for the Nanih Waiya basketball teams.
Both teams came away with a pair of wins last week. The Lady Warriors beat Union 46-42 and then took a tight 56-54 win over McAdams in district play.
The Warriors also came away with a pair of wins as they beat Union 44-31 and McAdams 49-46.
Nanih Waiya has a light holiday schedule as they all play East Union in the East Webster Christmas Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 28. They will return from Christmas break and host Velma Jackson on Friday, Jan. 3.
Nanih Waiya boys 44, Union 31
The Warriors pulled away late and took a 13-point win over the Yellowjackets on Tuesday.
Union led 10-9 at the end of the first before Nanih Waiya outscored the Yellowjackets 10-6 in the second to take a 19-6 lead at the half. Nanih Waiya continued to extend the lead in the second half and outscored Union 8-5 in the third and 17-10 in the fourth.
Conner Hickman led Nanih Waiya with 16 points while Jaqurious Hughes had nine points. Preston Prewitt also chipped in eight points.
Nanih Waiya girls 46, Union 42
The Lady Warriors took the lead in the third period and held on to take a hard-fought win over the Lady Yellowjackets.
Union led 9-8 at the end of the first period while the Lady Warriors led 16-15 at the half. Nanih Waiya then outscored Union 19-14 in the third to extend the lead to 35-29 going to the fourth. Union took the fourth period 13-11 for the final margin,
Nyshea Hoskin led Nanih Waiya with 23 points while Jasmine Hicks had seven points and Ky Spivey chipped in six points.
Nanih Waiya boys 49, McAdams 46
The Warriors pulled away in the second half to take a hard-fought three-point win over the Bulldogs in a big district game.
Each team scored 11 points in the first and 12 in the second to tie the game at 23-23 at the half. Nanih Waiya then outscored McAdams 15-13 in the third and 11-10 in the fourth to take the win.
Jaqurious Hughes led Nanih Waiya with 21 points while Preston Prewitt had nine points. Conner Hickman had seven points while Briceton Boler had five points and Sameer Hughes chipped in four points.
Nanih Waiya girls 56, McAdams 54
The Lady Warriors built a big lead and held off a later charge to take a two-point win over the Lady Bulldogs.
Nanih Waiya led 13-9 at the end of the first and then outscored McAdams 16-14 in the second to lead 29-23 at the half. The Lady Warriors then pulled away and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 16-6 to lead 45-29 going to the fourth. McAdams rallied and outscored Nanih Waiya 25-11 in the fourth but the Lady Warriors held on to take the win.
Jasmine Hickman led Nanih Waiya with 24 points while Zandy Eiland had 16 points. Ky Spivey had nine points while Hayden Anderson had five points.
