JACKSON, MISS. --- In recognition of National Work Zone Awareness Week taking place next week, April 20-24, MDOT is urging media outlets to help amplify an important PSA focused on the safety of drivers and roadside crews.
With maintenance and construction activities ramping up across the state, this annual observance serves as a critical reminder for drivers to stay alert, slow down and protect the lives of road workers and fellow motorists. After all, the work zone is their office.
“Considering the hundreds of fatalities in work zone-related crashes nationally, the majority being drivers, we’re once again reminding everyone how important it is to drive safe and distraction-free in work zones,” said MDOT Executive Director Brad White. “By simply driving safely, you can save lives, including your own. When you see orange, please slow down, pay attention and eliminate distractions like cell phones.”
