A man wanted in the theft of a truck from a Winona truck stop was apprehended Monday in Webster County after a high-speed pursuit.
The Winona Police Department released this statement about the incident:
During the early-morning hours Monday, the WPD received a report of a stolen truck from the Pilot Travel Center in Winona.
An investigation led to Grenada and back to Montgomery County, where the WPD said the suspect used a debit card in a store (in Montgomery). The debit card belonged to the owner of the truck.
After the store contacted local authorities, Kilmichael Police Chief Barry Gregg spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop the truck. A pursuit followed that lasted approximately 35-45 miles and reached speeds of over 100 mph.
The Kilmichael, Winona and Eupora police departments; Montgomery and Webster County sheriffs' departments; Mississippi Highway Patrol; and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks were all involved in the pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the suspect wrecked at the intersection of two unidentified county roads in Webster County. A foot pursuit followed and the suspect was apprehended a short time after.
The suspect, identified as Calvin Robinson of Kilmichael, was arrested and charged with felony motor vehicle theft by the WPD and will also face charges from the Kilmichael Police Department.
His bond for felony motor vehicle theft was set at $250,000 by Winona Municipal Judge Devoe Lancaster and he was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Winona City Court this week.
Winona PD said Robinson, who is in his late 30s, has a lengthy criminal history.
The Winona Police Department thanked all the agencies that assisted in the apprehension of the individual and the Montgomery County EOC for the part it played in the pursuit.
