An Easter morning traffic stop resulted in an arrest and seizure of quantities of meth, ecstasy and marijuana laced stacks.
Roby Jackson, 28, of Carthage could face charges of trafficking of a controlled substance schedule 1, trafficking of a controlled substance schedule 2, felony fleeing, resisting arrest, no driver’s license, no proof of insurance, false information provided to law enforcement, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
Sheriff’s Deputies Dylan Alford and Blake Sheets were working a checkpoint near Crystal Ridge Road and Garrigues Road when Jackson did not have a valid identification and provided an invalid social security number.
Deputy Alford indicated he smelled marijuana as well and requested Jackson exit the vehicle at which time Jackson speed away in his car. Deputy Sheets and Deputy Alford pursued Jackson until he crashed the vehicle near Bethel Road. Deputy Sheets apprehended Jackson as he was fleeing on foot.
Upon a search of the vehicle, the deputies took into evidence 57.9 grams of meth, 116 dosages of ecstasy, THC laced Cheetos and THC laced gummy worms.
Jackson had a female passenger in the vehicle at the time but at time of press deadlines she had not been charged.
Deputy Alford noted that checkpoints in the county and other areas were necessary and not for giving out minor citations but for keeping the community safe from drugs and other major crimes.
“We are concerned with the trafficking of drugs in the community and other associated crimes,” said Deputy Alford on why checkpoints are necessary part of law enforcement.
Winston County Sheriff Jason Pugh praised the work of Alford and Sheets along with getting the drugs of the streets of Winston County.
“They (Alford and Sheets) did a great job and we are aiming to continue to tackle drug crimes in our communities,” said Pugh. “We take these crimes seriously and are concerned with the proliferation of methamphetamine and other illegal drugs in the county.”
Preliminary hearings for the suspect was not scheduled at the time of press deadline.
