Ready, set, campaign! It’s the municipalities' turn to see if the residents in their respective towns will “hire” them for the next four years. But, for one town, they don’t have that worry.
In the Town of Weir, there’s a two-man race for the mayoral seat and the only race that will take place in Weir. In Ackerman, there will be two races on the ballot: a three-man – well two-men-and-one-woman race – in the mayoral race and a two-man race – well, a man and a woman – for the seat of alderman-at-large.
The town of French Camp will not have to have an election because all of its qualifiers face no opposition. Incumbents Bo Henderson, Jan Henderson, and Bo Kirby will be joined by Maria Price and Mitzi Watkins who will take the seats of Becky Stevens and Jennifer Morgan. Stevens and Morgan's last date will be June 30, 2025, or whenever the last meeting will take place in the Town of French Camp. Mayor Glen Barlow qualified for another term serving at the helm of the Town of French Camp.
Morgan recently joined the board after the untimely death of Alderwoman Ritha Moore.
In Ackerman, incumbent Dale Reid is going for another term while Lauren Carson and Randy Craft wish to unseat Reid. All of Ackerman’s Board of Aldermen have qualified for re-election, but only two of them have opponents.
In the race for Alderman-at-large, incumbent Carl Phelps and Nora Lynn Cain are vying for the seat, and in the race for Ward 3, incumbent James “Chris” Robinson and Bobby Davis are both vying for the seat. Incumbents Felecia Miller Baber, Tommy Curtis, and Brent Telano will keep their seats for another four years as each is running unopposed.
In Weir, two have qualified to run for mayor and two longtime aldermen are stepping down and not seeking election. In the mayoral race, current alderman Andy Bunkelman and resident Andrea Meadow have qualified to run. Bunkelman won the special election in 2024 against Jeremy Randle after the death of the late Thomas Higgins, Sr. The winner will succeed the late Glen Beard, Sr., who passed in November 2024, and the current interim mayor Doug Atkinson.
In the alderman, two current aldermen have qualified and three newcomers will join them. Incumbents Vicky Carter and Javette Pratt have both qualified to run and will be joined by Stoney Armstrong, John O’Kelly, and Loyd Ray.
Atkinson and Alderman Steve Wright are both stepping down from their seats at the end of their terms. Both have served on the board for a few decades, with Atkinson serving longer than Wright.
